Dear Lab School Community,
On Wednesday, August 7th, the ACSD#1 Board of Trustees approved the renewal of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that will allow the UW Lab School to operate on the University of Wyoming campus for the 2024-2025 school year. As previously communicated, the University of Wyoming does not intend to offer a MOU to the Lab School after 2024-2025.
Though Lab will remain open in its current location for 2024-2025, families may request to transfer their students to different schools within ACSD#1 utilizing one of the following processes:
Transfer to Home School
To request transfer to your neighborhood-assigned home school, please notify the Lab School administrative assistant, Virginia Chai, via email, phone, or in person. All transfer requests must be submitted by 3:00 PM on Friday, August 9th (tomorrow).
Boundary Exceptions
To request transfer to a school that is NOT your neighborhood-assigned home school, please submit a Boundary Exception Request to the principal or administrative assistant at your home school. Boundary Exceptions must be submitted by 3:00 PM on Friday, August 9th (tomorrow).
Transfers and boundary exceptions will be processed by administrative staff on August 12th and 13th. Families will be notified of the status of their requests no later than Friday, August 16th. Our team is working diligently to accommodate all requests. However, requests will be based on available space at the school for which a student is requesting transfer. Requests submitted after the deadline will not be considered in the process.
Future Plans for UW Lab
We understand that these circumstances have left staff, students, and families with many unanswered questions. District and school leadership are evaluating a variety of options for the Lab School beyond 2024-2025. Community input will be essential to determining the right path forward. In the coming weeks, please keep an eye out for a community survey and calendar of listening sessions scheduled for the month of September. We are committed to providing families with the most updated information as it becomes available.
